About Us

Founded in 2013, Power Up Gaming is a UK-based video games news and editorial website.

Edited by managing director Chris Mawson, the site focuses on delivering high-quality news articles, features, guides, reviews, previews and opinion pieces that cover both current and retro gaming.

Alongside mainstream games, we also pride ourselves on giving recognition to independent and mobile games and cover a broad range of titles on the site – whether they’re developed by an indie studio on a shoestring budget or one of the largest triple-A companies.

Power Up Gaming was born from its co-founders’ shared love of retro gaming, and has gone on to become one of the UK’s longest-standing and most beloved independent video game publications.

In its decade-plus of operation, Power Up Gaming has worked with over 70 freelance writers, editors and contributors. Many fledgling journalists and PRs started their career with PUG and have gone on to work for companies such as IT Pro, PC Invasion, IGN and Alfred London.

Chris Needham is Power Up Gaming's co-founder and director emeritus. Chris is responsible for PUG's unique creative design.

About the Editor

Alongside managing the day-to-day operations of Power Up Gaming, Chris Mawson works as a Head of SEO in digital marketing. He has 22 years’ experience in web design + development, content production and publishing.

With a specialism in video games and iGaming, his research has been published in industry publications including EGR and iGB Affiliate. In 2023 and 2024, Chris was a guest speaker at consecutive editions of the Prague Gaming & Tech Summit, advising delegates on best technical SEO practices.

Prior to working in the marketing industry, Chris was a freelance journalist whose work has been featured in publications including IGN, the Daily Star, Chelsea FC Online, the Yorkshire Evening Post, Gamespot, the Wrestling Observer and many more. He has been a lifelong gamer and owns an extensive retro games collection.
