Capcom Announced Resident Evil Veronica Remake For 2027, Skipping Over RE 5

After months of rumours, Capcom has finally made it official; it opened Summer Game Fest 2026 with the reveal of Resident Evil Veronica remake, which is currently slated to launch in 2027. While the publisher hasn’t yet shared gameplay footage, the trailer showed Claire Redfield arriving in France in search of her brother, Chris. However, upon reaching his apartment and finding it both empty and in disarray, she is ambushed by Umbrella operative HUNK.
Originally released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000, Resident Evil: Code Veronica was later ported to platforms including the PS2, GameCube, and later modern consoles through digital rereleases. The game takes place three months after the events of Resident Evil 2 and follows Claire as she continues her search for Chris. Captured when investigating Umbrella, Claire finds herself imprisoned on the remote Rockfort Island, where a sudden outbreak unleashes horrifying bio-organic weapons across the facility. Her journey eventually leads her to Antarctica, where she uncovers the dark secrets of the aristocratic Ashford family and their connection to Umbrella. While less known than the mainline titles, it remains a fan favourite for expanding the series’ wider lore. As well as introducing memorable villains such as Alfred and Alexia Ashford, and bringing Albert Wesker back into the spotlight.

The announcement of the Resident Evil Veronica remake is particularly noteworthy because many fans had expected Capcom to rework Resident Evil 5 first. Instead, the Osaka-based company chose to revisit Code Veronica, as many believe that the fifth mainline game’s setting and themes could prove more difficult to adapt in this day and age. The second Claire-led game, meanwhile, has long been regarded as one of the most requested remakes in the franchise due to its importance to the wider narrative.
For now, Capcom has only confirmed a 2027 release window and has yet to announce supported platforms. More details, including gameplay footage and a firm release date, will likely be shared in the months ahead. Either way, Resident Evil fans finally got the announcement they’ve been asking for for years.
